Adeva
Adeva (* 1960 in Paterson , New Jersey , real name Patricia A. Daniels ) is an African American house and R&B singer. She had a number of successful hits in the late 1980s to early 1990s, most notably Warning , I Thank You and Respect .
Career
Known for her powerful voice, she released a version of Otis Redding's hits Respect in 1989 , which reached number 17 in the UK . In the same year she released her debut album Adeva! out. The album was distributed in the United States in 1990 by the Capitol / EMI Records label under license from Chrysalis Records in Great Britain, where it had originally signed. The album was a commercial success and was also well received by critics. It contained several hit singles such as Beautiful Love , I Thank You and Musical Freedom . Respect has remained a favorite on contemporary / urban radio stations to this day , especially in New York .
Coincidentally, the three most successful singles on their 1989 album all reached number 17 in the British singles charts. In addition, although she did not have a top 10 single from it, she managed to reach the top ten with the debut album, which is unusual for a dance artist.
Your second album Love or Lust? Didn't make it into the UK or US charts in 1991 despite two hit singles, Independent Woman and It Should Have Been Me.
Adeva worked with house pioneer Frankie Knuckles in 1995, with whom she released two top 40 singles and an album called Welcome to the Real World .
The a cappella version of the 1988 single In and Out of My Life became a well-known house refrain. It was sampled by numerous artists including Onephatdeeva and Eric Prydz , who both used the vocals for their hits In and Out of My Life and In and Out , respectively . Adeva continues to be a very valued person in the New York garage and UK garage / house scene. In 1999 she released a cover version of the 1999 Prince song .
Adeva currently resides in North Carolina , where she teaches in a middle school.
