Adivarius is a medieval band from the Berlin area . They also call themselves “the minstrels in a good mood”.

Band name

Adivarius is a new word created with Latin aids. A-diva means something like "anti-diva". With this, the members of Adivarius want to point out that they want anything but divas or aloof. Varius stands for a collection or heap. So you can call Adivarius a "bunch of anti-divas".

Band history

The music group was founded in February 2005 by the two drummers Piero de la Croix and Malvin vom Blähwald. Shortly afterwards, in March 2005, Godehard von Ende joined them with a bagpipe, shawm and singing. In May 2005 Pastorello Sardo occupied the second melody instrument. Since then, Adivarius has been seen and heard at numerous medieval markets. In this formation, the first album Tanz mit mir! and in February 2007 recorded the second album Neue Wegen .

At the end of 2006 Peet vom Berge came to Adivarius as a guest musician. Shortly afterwards he became a full member of the band.

When Godehard von Ende said goodbye in 2006 and switched to Corvus Corax , Mercedes filled the ambiguous gap in the music series at the end of 2006.

At the end of 2006 Sylvana also joined the group and enriched the band with string playing, singing and shawm. At the end of 2007, Adivarius and Sylvana went their separate ways.

Mirror world

During this time, not only medieval markets in Germany, but also events abroad were accompanied musically. Adivarius got the opportunity to play in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Since 2007 Adivarius has been playing more and more festivals and clubs. Among others at the WGT in Leipzig (2007, 2009), the Pipes and Whistles (February 2007 and October 2007 in Berlin, February 2008 in Nuremberg, August 2008 in Vienna and March 6, 2010 in Berlin) and the Elf Fantasy Fair (September 2009 in Arcen )

At the end of 2008, the bard Ranarion became the new voice of Adivarius. With singing, guitar and shawm he creates a new timbre. At the same time Piero de la Croix said goodbye to Adivarius.

In the new formation (Malvin, Sardo, Peet, Mercedes and Ranarion), the third album Spiegelwelt was recorded in early 2009 and released in June 2009.

In 2010 there were more changes to the band. Malvin had to withdraw from active music life. He remains Adivarius as a musician and helper, but limited. Nikolaos takes the drums in his place and becomes a permanent member of the band. The paths of Adivarius and Ranarion part again and an old new member returns. Jordon (formerly Godehard von Ende) takes his place again with his voice, bagpipe and shawm.

style

The style of Adivarius can mainly be described as medieval folk. Since the third album, more rock elements have come to the fore. Strong rhythms with drums and percussion elements are a trademark of Adivarius throughout. The medieval market sackpipes and shawms with their sounds are also an important element in the music of Adivarius. There are also quieter melodies with stringed instruments and flutes. The new style picked up in the third album combines the well-known sounds with drums, electric guitar, electric bass, bagpipe and profound lyrics.
