Anton Wilhelm Plaz

Anton Wilhelm Plaz (also: Antonius Guilielmus Platz ; * January 2, 1708 in Leipzig ; † February 26, 1784 ibid) was a German botanist and doctor . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Plaz ".

Life

Anton Wilhelm Plaz was the son of the royal Polish, electoral Saxon appellate councilor, assessor of the Higher Court Court and Leipzig mayor (born April 18, 1658 in Leipzig; † September 15, 1728 ibid) and his second wife Anna Magdalena († August 8, 1712), Daughter of the professor of law at the University of Leipzig, Bartholomäus Leonhard von Schwendendörffer (1631–1705). He was initially trained by private tutors and began studying at the University of Leipzig in 1723 , becoming a baccalaureus in the same year and a master's degree in philosophy in 1725 . He then devoted himself to medical studies, became a medical doctor with Johann Friedrich Bauer in 1726 and moved to the University of Halle in 1728 , where he received his doctorate in medicine in the same year with the inaugural dissertation "de tussi infantum epidemica" (Halle 1728) under Michael Alberti .

When he returned to Leipzig, he became an associate professor at the medical faculty in 1733 , a full professor of botany in 1749, a professor of physiology in 1754 and a professor of therapy soon after. In 1773 he became permanent dean of the medical faculty and was rector of the alma mater in the summer semesters 1753, 1757, 1761, 1765, 1769, 1771, 1775 and 1779 . He also appeared as a Latin poet and was Decemvir . On January 23, 1744 he was nicknamed Plistonicus III. elected member (matriculation no. 535) of the Leopoldina .
