Michael Alberti
Michael Alberti (born November 13, 1682 in Nuremberg , † May 17, 1757 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German physician, physicist and philosopher.
Life
Michael Alberti, son of the pastor at the Nuremberg Lorenz Church Paul Martin Alberti (1640–1705) and his wife Clara, like his brothers, was initially to take up the father's profession. Therefore he attended the St. Aegidien high school , which was under the direction of the director Johann Georg Fuchs. There he acquired the university entrance qualification and moved to the University of Altdorf , where he studied Johann Christoph Sturm (1635–1703) in natural science and mathematics, Georg Paul Rötenbeck (1648–1710) in philosophy, Daniel Wilhelm Moller (1642–1712) and Johann Christoph Wagenseil ( 1633–1705) in history and geography, Magnus Daniel Omeis (1646–1708) in rhetoric, Christoph Sonntag (1654–1717) in the oriental languages and Johann Michael Lang (1664–1731) in theology as his teachers.
He then went to the University of Jena as court master , attended the lectures of Georg Wolfgang Wedel (1645–1721), Rudolph Wilhelm Krause (1642–1718) and Johann Philipp Slevogt (1649–1727) and developed a passion for medicine here . In order to be able to develop further, he moved to the University of Halle , where he was referred to Hofrat Georg Ernst Stahl (1659–1734) by August Hermann Francke . In Halle he attended medical lectures as well as those of Christoph Cellarius in the beautiful sciences and Johann Franz Buddeus in philosophy. In 1704 he received his doctorate in medicine under steel and began to give lectures. His father, who had advanced in old age and needed help, called him back to Nuremberg.
There he continued to give classes to students who had traveled with him and trained in medical practice. Soon he received the post of physicist in Windsheim , which he did not take because of the death of his father. But since he could not gain a foothold at the Altdorf University in Nuremberg, he returned to Halle, where he held medical and philosophical lectures. In 1710 he became an associate professor in Halle. In 1713 he was admitted to the Imperial Academy of Natural Scientists (Leopoldina) under the name Andronicus and, in 1716, a full professor at the medical faculty in Halle. Soon afterwards he was given an extraordinary professorship in physics, and he was also given responsibility for the royal free tables. During his 42 years as a professor in Halle, he was dean of the Faculty of Medicine 34 times and dean of the Philosophical Faculty nine times, as well as three times (1726/27, in the back semester of 1737 and 1753/54) Vice Rector of the University of Halle . In 1717 he became royal councilor and in 1719 he was consistorial councilor in the consistory of the Duchy of Magdeburg . Alberti was also a foreign member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Berlin from 1726 . In 1729 he took over the management of the botanical garden in Halle and on October 17, 1736 he was awarded the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Wittenberg .
Alberti had been married to Anna Magdalena (* around 1684; † November 7, 1741 in Halle), the daughter of the button maker and councilor in Halle Georg Wendt, since 1705. This marriage resulted in five children, most of whom died young. His only surviving son Heinrich Christian Alberti (1722–1782) also became an associate professor of medicine in Halle.
Michael Alberti was buried in Halle's Stadtgottesacker , his grave is in arch 75.
Act
Alberti was one of the most ardent and important supporters of steel. All his endeavor was to spread the animistic teaching of his master, to defend it against all attacks, and he did not do justice to this task without skill. With an education, albeit a shallow, philosophical one, and with an aesthetic education, he combined a comprehensive medical erudition, and so he moved in the most varied fields, both in life and in science, with equal mediocrity. In addition to several hundreds of occasional academic publications, he has published a number of textbooks on various branches of medicine and a medical-forensic composite. He had also made a name for himself in the field of forensic medicine during his time. He has also dealt with theological issues.
