Adolf Heizmann

Adolf Heizmann (born September 20, 1911 in Thalwil near Zurich ; † May 21, 2002 in Basel ), reformed , was a Swiss teacher and writer .

Life

Adolf Heizmann spent his early youth in Thalwil, Davos and Horgen. The family moved to the city of Basel in 1918. Born in Thalwil, he attended primary , secondary and upper secondary schools in Basel, then the Schiers teacher training college , before he obtained the Glarus teacher diploma in 1931 . From 1939 to 1945 he did active service in the Swiss Army. Until his retirement in 1972, Heizmann held a teaching position for children with developmental disabilities in Basel, where he also taught at the girls' secondary school until 1962. After his retirement he lived in Allschwil . The father of two, widowed since 1994, died in 2002 at the age of 90 in Basel.

Adolf Heizmann emerged as the author of novels , short stories , radio plays , plays, Swiss dialect works, poetry and especially books for young people . In 1955 he was awarded the recognition prize of the Swiss Youth Writings Works (SJW) , in 1956 the Basel School Synod's youth book prize for the book Hendrik and his friends, and in 1976 he was awarded honorary membership of the Swiss Curative Education Society. His estate is in the Basel University Library.
