Carl Adolf Henning (born February 28, 1809 in Berlin ; † March 25, 1900 there ) was a German painter .

Life

Adolf Henning was born on February 28, 1809 in Berlin as the son of court conductor Karl Wilhelm Henning (1784–1867). From 1823 he studied at the Berlin Academy a . a. with Wilhelm Wach . In 1833 he was proven to be a history and portrait painter at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in first class with Wilhelm von Schadow . Together with the painter Heinrich Mücke , he traveled to Italy from 1833 to 1835 . After his return to Berlin, he earned his living as a successful portrait painter . In 1839 he became a member and professor at the Berlin Academy. Henning was married to Marie Jordan (* 1816 in Berlin, † 1899 ibid.) Since 1836. His brother-in-law and friend was the painter Rudolf Jordan .

Adolf Henning died on March 25, 1900 in Berlin.

On April 7, 2019, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, moderated by Janin Ullmann and filmed in Reinbek Castle . A lacquer painting on tinplate was discussed with the art historian Wilhelm Hornbostel , which was painted around 1840 by a painter from the Braunschweig Manufactory by Heinrich Wilhelm Stockmann based on a lost portrait of Adolf Henning showing the actress and opera singer Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient .
