Adolf Herschmann
Adolf Herschmann (born April 6, 1895 in Vienna , † after 1926) was an Austrian wrestler and Olympic participant.
Career
Adolf Herschmann came to Vienna to wrestle before World War I. During his career he belonged to the AC “Wacker” Vienna , the AK “Cherusker” Vienna and the police SV Vienna . He only wrestled in the Greco-Roman style. He was a police officer by profession.
As a result of World War I, he was only able to intervene in national and international competitions from 1920. In 1922 he landed one of his greatest successes in his career, because he came first at the German bantamweight fighting games in Berlin, ahead of Richard Fabrowsky, Berlin and the 1912 Olympic runner-up Georg Gerstacker from AC “Sandow” Nuremberg.
In 1923 he became Austrian bantamweight champion. He repeated this success in 1924 and also won the Austrian elimination for the Olympic Games in Paris that year. At these Olympic Games he came in bantamweight victories over Mazhar Cakin, Turkey, Jan Bozdech, Czechoslovakia and Theophile Kueny, France. In the 4th round he lost to Sigfrid Hansson from Sweden, which he eliminated and took a good 5th place.
In the following years he struggled to bring the weight for the bantam weight class. In 1926 he started again at the German fighting games in Cologne in this weight class, but retired there after two won and two lost fights and was not placed.
