Adolf Jebens

Adolf Jebens (born March 19, 1819 in Elbing ; † May 8, 1888 in Berlin ) was a German painter .

Life

From 1832 Jebens attended the Cölln High School in Berlin, then he studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts . Between 1836 and 1839 he was in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and was a student in the teaching ateliers of Carl von Steuben and Paul Delaroche . From 1839 to 1841 he worked as a portrait painter in Elbing, Danzig and Berlin, again in Paris in 1841 and again a student of Paul Delaroche. In 1842 he studied in Rome and took part in the Paris Salon and the Berlin Academy Exhibition. He traveled through Warsaw , Danzig and Elbing from 1843–1846 and worked as a portraitist for the Danzig Society. Then Jebens was in Saint Petersburg with a successful activity as a portraitist, from 1848 teacher of painting at the drawing school of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts Saint Petersburg. Before 1861 he was appointed member, in 1861 academician of genre painting of the Imperial Russian Academy of Arts . After a trip through Warsaw in 1863/64 (execution of various commissioned portraits of soldiers) he settled in Berlin.
