Adolf Welti (born October 16, 1876 in Aarburg , † September 16, 1951 in Rheinfelden ) was a Swiss doctor and politician ( SP ). From 1922 to 1943 he represented the canton of Aargau in the National Council .

biography

Welti became a half-orphan at the age of twelve when his father, the pharmacist Franz Welti, died. He graduated from high school in Zurich and then studied medicine at the Universities of Lausanne , Basel and Zurich . After working for several years as an assistant doctor at the Olten Cantonal Hospital , he opened his own doctor's practice in Möhlin . In 1906 he moved to Rheinfelden and founded a children's home for saltwater cures there . For twenty years he worked at the Rheinfelden Regional Hospital.

Welti was also politically active. He joined the FDP , where he belonged to the left, social-liberal wing. The consequences of the First World War and, in his view, the excessive interdependence of the economy with politics led him to leave the FDP and instead turn to the Social Democrats . In 1922 he was elected to the National Council, to which he belonged for 19 years. From 1925 to 1929 he was also a temporary member of the Grand Council . He was especially committed to improving hygiene and fighting tuberculosis .

In his spare time Welti played music and wrote poetry. He also wrote a non-fiction book on the salt bath cure.
