Franz Xaver Eggspühler

Franz Xaver Eggspühler (born November 19, 1861 in Klingnau ; † May 4, 1930 in Zurich ; resident in Klingnau) was a Swiss politician ( KVP ). From 1902 until his death he represented the canton of Aargau in the National Council .

biography

Coming from a humble background, Eggspühler graduated from high school in Schwyz . He then studied law at the Universities of Basel , Strasbourg , Berlin , Breslau and Bern . After he had acquired the lawyer and notary's license, he worked as a clerk in Zurzach from 1886 , six years later he took over the presidium of the district court. He held this office until 1905, when he was elected chief judge. In the higher court he headed the prosecution chamber and chaired the notary's commission.

Eggspühler's political career began in 1893 when he was elected to the Grand Council , of which he was a member until 1905. In 1904/05 he was President of the Grand Council. In the parliamentary elections in 1902 he moved to the National Council , where he was soon one of the leading figures in the Catholic-Conservative faction. At his instigation, the parliament decided in 1916 to build the Surbtal Railway , which was never realized due to the consequences of the First World War.

Eggspühler held numerous other offices. He was president of the Roman Catholic Synodal Council, the non-profit society of the Zurzach district and the St. Johann educational institution in Klingnau and a member of the seminar commission.
