Adolf Theodor Werner (* 1827 in Frankenmühle (Schradenland) near Hirschfeld , † 1904 in Dobrilugk ) was a German portrait and romantic genre painter .

Life

Adolf Theodor Werner was born in Frankenmühle near Hirschfeld in 1827. His father was Johann Christian Gottlieb Werner, born in Übigau near Großenhain . He was a painter, whose main works form an altarpiece for the Lindenau church (copy after Corregio's Die Heilige Nacht ), the three-volume work Flora im Schraden (lost) and the historically significant colored drawing Excerpt from the Frankenmühle . Adolf Werner and his family moved from Frankenmühle to Großkmehlen in 1831 . In 1841 he took up his studies at the Dresden Art Academy under Eduard Bendemann (1811-1889) and Hugo Erhard (1810-1859). He then went on study trips to Belgium (Antwerp Academy, 1850), Italy and the Netherlands.

Around 1864 Werner created works of art in Düsseldorf , where he lived for a while and where he sent exhibits to the Prussian Academy of the Arts . From 1852 until his death in 1904 he lived in a 12-room studio apartment in Doberlug Castle .

The painter, graphic artist and sculptor Catrin Große (* 1964 in Finsterwalde) is Adolf Werner's great-granddaughter.
