The main source of income was hop growing. There has been evidence of a knight's seat since 1391 - the first owner of small and large flour was the Pope von Köck (e) ritz in 1392. 1464 Seifert was of Lüttichau with wholesale Kmehlen invested . The manor was owned by the Lüttichau family until 1773 . In 1718 Gottfried Silbermann built an organ in the church. It was last restored in 1995 by the Moritzburg organ building company Rühle . The village church of Blochwitz was also under the patronage of Liège , which was redesigned in baroque forms after the Thirty Years War. In 1845 Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal acquired the old part of the manor.
Großkmehlen was in the authority of Großenhain in the Kingdom of Saxony until 1815 and then came to the Liebenwerda district of the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony . In 1952, Großkmehlen was incorporated into the Senftenberg district of the GDR district of Cottbus . On January 1, 1974, Frauwalde and Kleinkmehlen were incorporated into Großkmehlen.
