Werner Kleinig

Werner Kleinig (born June 2, 1941 in Großkmehlen ) is a German cyclist who was active in the 60s and 70s. He was a specialist in cyclo-cross racing and was a GDR champion in this discipline. In the profession he was trained, he was a blacksmith .

Athletic career

Kleinig started cycling in 1956, his club was the BSG activist Lauchhammer, later the BSG Chemie Annahütte. In 1967 he was East German champion in cyclo-cross racing. A year later he was third. At the UCI World Championships in cyclo-cross races, he took part in 1961 (21st place) and 1967 (23rd place).

A fall in 1969 forced him to give up active sport.

Professional

Kleinig completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith.
