Günter Liebold (born September 12, 1943 in Werdau ) is a former racing cyclist who was active in the GDR in the 1960s . In 1959 he competed in his first bike race in the Dynamo Zwickau club. In the youth class he was able to achieve a total of 35 victories, including the GDR youth championship in 1961. He ended his career in 1968.

He originally worked as a farmer, later as a radio mechanic at Sternradio Berlin. His nickname is "John".

Liebold was a member of the central sports club of the GDR security organs, SC Dynamo Berlin . During his career, he competed in both road and cyclo-cross races . He was used several times as a member of the GDR national team in international races abroad, for example in the individual competition of the road world championship in 1965 , where he was only 68th as the worst of six GDR drivers. He achieved a better result as 12th out of 42 rated players in the 1965 Tour of Austria .

A year later his successes in cross-country skiing began (after he had already successfully contested cross-country races as a youth driver). He was GDR champion in 1966, finished second in 1967 and won the cyclo-cross championship again in 1968. 1967 was the last time a selection of the GDR started for world championships in cyclo-cross races. Günter Liebold started in Zurich and finished 45.

At the same time, he recorded his first victories on the road. In 1964 and 1966 he won the GDR spring classic Berlin - Bad Freienwalde - Berlin, and in 1966 the Lancy Grand Prix in Switzerland . In his last successful year, he won the road race around Berlin in 1967 and came third in the GDR championship in the individual road race. During his last known assignment abroad, he was also 15th on the Tour of Poland in 1967 . In the GDR tour in 1965 he achieved 19th place, in 1966 he was 18th, and in 1967 21st.
