Uwe Freese

Uwe Freese (born December 22, 1957 in Kyritz ) is a German cyclist .

Sporty

Freese, who began his career at SG Dynamo Kyritz, started for SC Dynamo Berlin  in road and track races as well as in cyclo-cross races . With the latter he was already very successful in his youth. He won stage victories in the East Tour (1978 he was in this race best young rider), the Tour of Bulgaria and Thüringen-Rundfahrt . His best result in a stage race was 2nd place in the GDR Tour in 1976. In 1976, 1978 and 1979 he was GDR champion in cyclo-cross racing. He achieved further good placements at GDR championships in the mountain time trial with second place in 1978 and in the criterion with second place also in 1978. He ended his career in 1981.

Private

He is the brother of Burkhard Freese , with whom he competed in the SC Dynamo Berlin race.

Professional

Freese completed an apprenticeship as a vehicle fitter. After his active career, Freese worked as a trainer since 1989, a. a. as a regional association trainer and with the KED cycling team in Berlin. From 2006 to 2008 he was national trainer for the endurance area. The Association of German Cyclists ended their collaboration after the disappointing performance of their pursuers at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .
