Career

Catrin Große studied painting / graphics at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 1984 to 1989 and received her diploma in 1991. In her very young years she belonged to the alternative art scene in the GDR. As early as 1986, she exhibited in Jörg Deloch's “Underground” living room gallery on the second floor of the rear building at Schönhauser Allee 50 in Berlin .

From 1991 to 1993 she was a master class student with Günter Horlbeck . From 1993-1994 she received a residency scholarship from the Museum Schloss Moritzburg through the Philip Morris art grant . This was followed from 1994–1995 by a DAAD scholarship for postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art in London with Tim Mara in the printmaking department.

In London she developed an embossing process that combines different printing techniques in a single printing process by rolling or cutting the printing block. It is printed with oil paint on very heavy cotton handmade paper on a rotogravure roller press with very soft felts or foam rubber. She calls this process anvil pressure .

Catrin Große has been working as a freelance painter, graphic artist and sculptor since 1995. Since then she has given numerous lectures and workshops (e.g. at the University of Art & Design in Coventry , Yale College Wrexham and the University of Wales ). Since 2002 she has been teaching creative techniques, developing offers for expanding art lessons and integrating artistic-aesthetic processes into the learning process (since 2005 in the ARTuS! Project). From 1997 to 2006 she dealt with ceramics in collaboration with the ceramist Ilona Möbert from Cottbus and the companies Sachsen-Porzellan (Freital) and Arita (Meißen) as well as with the jewelry designer Brit Kolleß from Dresden. Since 2004 he has been producing film projects (film “Wahlwerbung” 2004, “Blickwinkel” 2004–2005, “Wechselspiel” 2006, “National Anthem” 2007).

Catrin Große is the mother of two children. Since 1998 she has mainly worked in the areas of printmaking , sculpture and installation . Since 2007 she has also been teaching painting and graphics at the Graun Brothers School of Music in Herzberg . She is a member of GEDOK .
