Adolph Frhr. v. La Valette-St. George

Adolph Freiherr von La Valette-St. George (born November 14, 1831 at Auel Castle , † November 29, 1910 in Bonn ) was a German zoologist and anatomist.

origin

His parents were Philipp Jacob Joseph from la Valette-St. George (born December 31, 1791 - June 7, 1851) and his wife Francesca Josepha Elisabeth, born von Broë-Diepenbend (1794–1876).

Life

Valette studied medicine at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . Since 1852 he was a member of the Corps Guestphalia Berlin . 1855 in Berlin for Dr. phil. and in 1857 Dr. med. doctorate , he completed his habilitation in 1858 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . There he was in 1859 Prosektor , 1862 associate professor and in 1875 full professor of anatomy. He wrote important works on the evolutionary history of animals (especially the arthropods ) and on spermatogenesis in mammals . In 1867 he was the first to describe the Golgi apparatus , which he discovered in the sperm cells of snails. With Heinrich Wilhelm Waldeyer he edited the "Archive for Microscopic Anatomy" from 1875 and from 1889 still with Oscar Hertwig . In 1882 he was elected to the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

family

He married Anna von Niesewand (1839–1930), a daughter of the Prussian Major General Leopold Otto von Niesewand , on August 11, 1863 at Lehrbach Castle . The couple had several children:
