Adrian Allen (born March 23, 1934 in Preston , † March 12, 2009 in Sheffield ) was an English football player .

Career

Allen played for Preston North End and the Broughton Amateurs as a teenager before being called up for military service. He served as the Royal Naval Officer in the Korean War and also played for selection teams in the military during that time. After his discharge from military service, he began studying and joined Southport FC as an amateur in May 1954 . After a few games for the reserve team, he made his professional debut in September 1954 in the Third Division North against Oldham Athletic , when the former England captain George Hardwick was his direct opponent. In the further course of the season he came as a right winger to a total of six league appearances and was appointed to the selection team of the Lancashire County Football Association . In 1956 he left Southport again and subsequently played as a professional in the Lancashire Combination , first for Morecambe FC , for which he scored 11 goals in 41 competitive games, and then for Lancaster City , Netherfield FC and Darwen FC .

Allen graduated from the Universities of Manchester , London and Durham and earned his living teaching at secondary schools in Preston and Manchester before becoming headmaster of a Comprehensive School in Sheffield.
