Adrian Meyer (officer)

Adrian Meyer (born April 3, 1708 in Herisau , † 1774 at sea , buried in Portoferraio on Elba ; authorized to reside in Herisau) was a Swiss officer from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Adrian Meyer was a son of Jeremias Meyer, state governor, major in the French service and canvas merchant , and Adriana Ziegler. He married Johanna Christina d`Orly. Meyer entered French service as an ensign in the Swiss Regiment d' Affry in 1721 and rose to lieutenant captain . From 1734 to 1737 he led a company in imperial service. From 1738 to 1743 he officiated as councilor and clerk of the Kirchhöri Herisau. From 1743 Meyer maintained a battalion under his own name in Sardinia-Piedmont . Due to his success in the war against France and Spain , he rose to the highest ranks: in 1747 to colonel and in 1754 to brigadier of the royal Sardinian infantry . In 1761 he was appointed major general and in 1771 lieutenant general and 2nd generalissimo of the Royal Sardinian Army.
