Adrianus Franciscus Theodorus van der Heijden (born October 15, 1951 in Geldrop near Eindhoven, Netherlands) is a Dutch writer .

Life

He undertook his first literary attempts as Patrizio Canaponi and received the Dutch literature award in 1979 for the best first work (for the short story collection Eine Gondel in the Herrengracht ) under this pseudonym . He is one of the most important contemporary Dutch writers and received the Constantijn Huygensprijs in 2011 for his life's work .

Van der Heijden grew up in the Dutch village of Hulst . He attended Sint-Joris College in Eindhoven , where he graduated in 1969. Before moving to Amsterdam, he studied philosophy and psychology in Nijmegen .

Novel cycle De tandeloze tijd

He became really known for his novel cycle The Toothless Time , which appeared in seven volumes between 1983 and 1996. It is a social and time novel with many storylines and autobiographical references. The individual novels in the cycle have not appeared in the correct chronological order, either in Dutch or in German. The individual titles are:

In a volume accompanying the novel cycle Die Toothless Time , van der Heijden explains how his work came about. The volume also describes the crossing paths of all protagonists:
