Adrien Jerome Broner (born July 28, 1989 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American professional boxer, former WBO world champion in super featherweight, former world champion of the WBC in lightweight, former world champion of the WBA welterweight and former world champion of the WBA light welterweight.

Boxing career

Adrien Broner started boxing at the age of six and won 300 of 319 amateur fights. In 2002 and 2003, he was Silver Gloves Champion and in 2005 won a bronze medal at the National Junior Olympics .

In 2008 he switched to professional life and is under contract with Golden Boy Promotions . By early 2011, he had a number of build-up wins against boxers such as Fernando Quintero (7-0), William Kickett (15-1), Rafael Lora (11-2) and Guillermo Sánchez (11-1). He was in June 2010 intercontinental youth champion of the WBC and in January 2011 US champion of the WBC.

On March 5, 2011, he defeated Daniel Ponce de León (41-2) unanimously on points and was thereby intercontinental champion of the WBO super featherweight. On June 18, 2011 he defeated Jason Litzau (28-2) by tKo in the first round and then received a WBO world title chance against Vicente Martin Rodriguez (34-2). He defeated this on November 26, 2011 in Cincinnati by knockout in the third round.

After a tKo win in the fourth round against Eloy Pérez (23-0) and a tKo win in the fifth round against Vicente Escobedo (26-3), he rose to the lightweight. There he won the WBC world title on November 17, 2012 in Atlantic City through tKo in the eighth round against Antonio DeMarco (28-2). He defended this for the first time on February 16, 2013 against the British European Champion Gavin Rees (37-1), by giving up his opponent after the fifth round.

On June 22, 2013 he defeated Paul Malignaggi (32-4) on points. He won the WBA welterweight championship, which he lost again on December 14, 2013 against Marcos Maidana (34-3). In May 2014 he won on points against Carlos Molina (17-1). On September 7th, "The Problem" won on points against Emmanuel Taylor (18-2). In March 2015 he won on points against John Molina junior (27-5). In June 2015 he lost by unanimous decision to Shawn Porter (25-1), but won early against Chabib Allachwerdiew (19-1) in October 2015 . As a result, he was again WBA world champion.

In April 2016 he defeated Ashley Theophane (39-6). In July 2017 he lost unanimously to Miguel Ángel García (36-0). He drew against Jessie Vargas (28-2) in April 2018.

On January 19, 2019, he lost a fight for the WBA welterweight title against the 40-year-old Filipino defending champion Senator Manny Pacquiao in front of 13,000 spectators in front of 13,000 spectators unanimously (111-117, 112-116, 112-116) in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand , who dominated from the start.

Others

After a win, he always performs an idiosyncratic dance, which he himself calls Mr Miyagi . Another special feature is the seemingly constant combing of his hair before and after fights.

He made one of his best-known statements in the follow-up interview after his victory against Eloy Pérez; Listen, man, they call me "The problem," but you can call me the "CAN-man",'cause anybody can get some, Mexi-CAN's, Afri-CANS, Ameri-CANs, even Republi-CANS " . After he let his victory against Molina in May 2014, still in the ring with the statement on breastfeeding Adrien "the problem" Broner, the cAN-man, anybody can get it, Afri-CANS, I Just Beat the Fuck Out of a Mexican I carried away and a few days later it was banned indefinitely by the World Boxing Council on suspicion of a racist background to this statement.

Adrien Broner lives in Cincinnati and is the father of four children.
