The Aegir is a work ship that can be used both as a pipelayer and as a floating crane .
The ship is based on the DLV5000 (also referred to as Sea of Solutions SOC 5000 ) design by the Ulstein Group . It is owned by a company owned by the Dutch offshore service provider Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC). It is also referred to as DCV Aegir , where DCV stands for D eepwater C onstruction V essel (German deep-sea work ship). As with all HMC work ships, the name of the ship is derived from a figure in Norse mythology ; Aegir is the name for the giant of the sea .
Technology and equipment
The Aegir has a diesel-electric drive. At the stern of the ship there are two azimuth thruster each with 6,500 kW power . These can be dismantled underwater.
