Aelita Yurchenko

Aelita Yurchenko ( Ukrainian Аеліта Юрченко , Russian Аэлита Юрченко , English transcription Aelita Yurchenko; born January 1, 1965 ) is a former Ukrainian athlete who competed internationally for the Soviet Union until 1992.

At the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 , Yurchenko won the silver medal behind the GDR and ahead of the US team as the starting runner in the 4 x 400 meter relay together with Olga Nazarova , Marija Pinigina and Olha Bryshina .

In 1991 Yurchenko was the Soviet indoor champion in the 400-meter run . Over the same distance she finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships in Seville . In addition, she secured a silver medal there as the final runner in the 4 x 400 meter relay around Marina Schmonina , Lyudmyla Dschyhalowa and Margarita Ponomarjowa . In the same year, she competed at the World Championships in Tokyo over 400 meters, but was eliminated after the preliminary round due to an injury. Two years later at the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 she reached the semi-finals in the 400-meter run, now starting for the Ukraine.
