Aerosur was a Bolivian airline based in Santa Cruz and based at Santa Cruz de la Sierra Airport .
history
The AeroSur SA was founded in 1992 as Bolivian regional airline and grew steadily over the following years. Aerosur's aim was to offer a better service than the competing Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano at slightly higher prices .
Since 2004 AeroSur has been offering nostalgic scheduled flights within Bolivia with a Douglas DC-3 for tourists .
After Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano had to discontinue the connection to Madrid due to financial difficulties in March 2006, Aerosur has been organizing provisional weekly charter flights since April 2006 , operated by Air Comet and Aerosur, from Santa Cruz to Madrid with aircraft of the type Airbus A330-200 and Boeing 747- 300 .
Between March 31 and April 6, 2012, AeroSur temporarily ceased flight operations for another time. On April 6, 2012, the airline resumed all routes with the exception of Santa Cruz - Madrid, as the 747 was returned to Virgin Atlantic on this route. Aerosur planned to resume this route with a former Aerolineas Argentinas 747-400. At the beginning of May, flights were offered again via the website, but on May 17, 2012, flight operations were suspended again.
In July 2012, the company's license was finally withdrawn and the company has since ceased operations.
Destinations
Aerosur operated a dense route network between all major cities in Bolivia and, since 1998, international connections to São Paulo in Brazil , Buenos Aires in Argentina , Asunción in Paraguay and Cusco in Peru . Since 2007, the cities of Salta , San Miguel de Tucumán in northwest Argentina and Madrid have also been served .
