The Aero Ae-02 is a Czechoslovak military aircraft from the early 1920s. Although it was not built in series, it has its place in aviation history as the first fighter aircraft designed and built in the ČSR .

history

Development work began in 1920 and was carried out by the Aero designers Antonín Husník and Antonín Vlasák. The aircraft was a single-engine biplane made of wood with a fixed landing gear connected by an axle and a tail dragging spur. The tail unit was self-supporting. A Hispano-Suiza 8 Ba engine served as the drive.

Construction was completed a year later, and Eros chief pilot Josef Novák took off on the maiden flight in 1921. Series production of the sample was not decided. It served as a template for the Ae-03 high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft and the Ae-04 fighter , but they also did not go into production. Two years later, the A.18 fighter and racing aircraft , which reached a top speed of 275 km / h, emerged from the experience with the Ae-02 .

Josef Novák won the prize for best aerobatic pilot with the Ae-02 at the annual international speed race in Prague. He achieved second place for the achieved speed of 219 km / h.
