The Aero L-29A Delfin Akrobat is a jet-powered aerobatic aircraft from the Czechoslovak manufacturer Aero . It was not produced in series.
history
The L-29A is a single-seat development of the jet trainer L-29 , which was specially designed for higher aerobatics and aerobatic training. The construction was carried out on the initiative of Aero employees under the direction of Jan Vlček. One of the first prototypes with the serial number 00031 was converted for this purpose. It was the machine that had won the comparison flight against the Jak-30 and the TS-11 in Monino. The prototype received the aircraft registration number 0157. The first flight took place in October 1967 with test pilot Juri Souk. The machine was later given the civil license OK-SZA . A second prototype was built. Both machines were exhibited at the International Engineering Fairs in Brno in 1967 and 1968. The Czech aerobatic pilot Jiři Blaha presented the L-29A to the public in flight at the German Air Show in Hanover in 1968. In 1969 the OK-SZA was presented at the Paris Aerosalon in Le Bourget . Series production did not materialize.
Due to the lower take-off weight compared to the L-29, the L-29A had better flight performance, in particular greater climbing ability and a slightly higher summit height.
construction
The L-29A is a trapezoidal wing center-wing aircraft with T-tail and retractable landing gear. Compared to the L-29, the fuel and lubricant system was modified to achieve longer inverted flight times.
use
The L-29A was intended for use in aviation and the training of fighter pilots. However, it has not been used more widely. At least the machine with the registration OK-SZA was used in an air sports club. This machine is exhibited today in the Czech Aviation Museum in Kunovice .
