1,1-Dimethylhydrazine (UDMH, top) and hydrazine (bottom), the two components of Aerozin 50 |
Aerozin 50 (English: Aerozine 50 ) is a fuel mixture for rockets . It was originally designed for the II titanium developed -Interkontinentalraketen and is today however in other US - missiles used, including the second stage of the Delta II rocket.
Aerozin 50 is a toxic and corrosive mixture of 50% 1,1-dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) and 50% hydrazine . Aerozin 50 reacts spontaneously with the oxidizing agent dinitrogen tetroxide , so this combination is hypergolic . The fuel mixture and nitrous tetroxide can be stored separately from one another at normal temperatures. UH 25 also contains water, but otherwise the same components as Aerozin 50, but in a different mixing ratio.
hazards
Like its components hydrazine and UDMH, Aerozin 50 is toxic, corrosive and carcinogenic.
