Afonso Van-Dúnem M'Binda

Afonso Domingos Pedro "M'Binda" Van-Dúnem (born September 7, 1941 in Luanda ; † November 14, 2014 ibid) was an Angolan diplomat and politician of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA).

Life

Afonso Domingos Pedro Van-Dúnem M'Binda joined the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) in 1961 and was MPLA representative in Zambia from 1970 to 1972 and MPLA coordinator for external relations in the United Republic of Tanzania . After Angola's independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975, he became a member of the Central Committee (Central Committee) and Secretary of the Central Committee of the MPLA and at the same time Governor of the Province of Luanda . In 1977 he was elected a member of the Central Committee at the First MPLA Congress and in 1978 he was appointed Central Committee Secretary for Information. In 1979 he took over the role of Central Committee Secretary for Foreign Relations and was elected on August 23, 1980elected member of the People's Assembly (Assembleia do Povo) . In 1985 he was elected a member of the Politburo of the MPLA Central Committee.

In 1985 Afonso Van-Dúnem was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola (Ministro da Relações Exteriores) as successor to President of Angola José Eduardo dos Santos . He kept this ministerial office until 1989 and was then replaced by Pedro de Castro Van-Dúnem . He was also Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York City between 1991 and 2000 . On September 3, 2010 he was again Central Committee Secretary for Foreign Relations and most recently also served as President of the Fundação Sagrada Esperança .
