The African Children's Choir is a children's choir with singers aged 7 to 10 from different African nations . It is a program from the Music for Life Institute .

history

In 1984 the first African Children's Choir was put together by human rights activist and pastor Ray Barnett with the aim of leaving behind a positive influence on the development of impoverished and orphaned children and to collect donations through his concert tours. Since then, the choir has been touring the world anew every year to enable and improve education and quality of life for children all over Africa. Today the program supports over 7000 children in different countries in Africa.

The choir has produced a number of audio and video recordings over the years and has made guest appearances at events around the world. They performed in the British House of Commons , the Pentagon , the Royal Albert Hall , the London Palladium and the International Club in Berlin. The choir can also be heard in the soundtrack of films such as Menschenkind , Hotel Rwanda or Blood Diamond .

In 2005 the African Children's Choir performed at the Live 8 concert in London with Mariah Carey and Paul McCartney and appeared on The Tonight Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show . In 2006 the young singers performed for One and the UNAIDS summit of the UN . In the same year the choir appeared on Canadian Idol and the following year, 2007, on American Idol . The choir also performed three sold-out concerts in 2007 with the band Dispatch at Madison Square Garden in New York . In 2008 she made guest appearances on the concert Worship A New Hallelujah by Michael W. Smith in Houston and worked at the live recording. On September 29, 2009, the choir celebrated its 25th anniversary in the Hotel Vancouver , Canada , with the original program from 1984. In 2018, the children's choir could be heard in the background to Mark Forster's single Once . The single reached position 60 in the official German single charts.

The choir tours the USA , Canada and Great Britain .
