Agave × peacockii is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Peacock's Agave".

description

Agave × peacockii grows individually. The variably arranged, thick, stiff, linear to lanceolate, bluish to green leaves are 60 to 145 cm long and 10 to 16 cm wide. The upper and lower sides of the leaf are shaped differently. The fibrous, horny leaf margins are serrated flexibly. The strong brown to gray terminal spine is 2.5 to 7 cm long.

The paniculate, racemose inflorescence is up to 2.30 m high. The yellow flowers appear singly or in clusters and are 48 to 55 mm long. The wide flower tube is up to 4 mm long. The elongated three-chamber capsule fruits are 25 to 30 mm long and 12 to 14 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from April to May.

Systematics and distribution

Agave × peacockii grows in Mexico in Hidalgo , Puebla and Oaxaca on dry limestone slopes , in woodlands from 1000 to 1800 m altitude. It is associated with succulents and cactus species.

The first description by George Croucher was published in 1873. Synonyms are Agave ghiesbreghtii var. Peacockii Terracciano , Agave roezliana var. Peacockii Trel.

Agave × peacockii is a member of the Marginatae group . The species is suggested to be a natural hybrid between the sympatric Agave marmorata and Agave kerchovei . The intermediate inflorescences, which show features of both the subgenus Littaea and the subgenus Agave , are characteristic. The species is cultivated in the Huntington Botanical Garden in San Marino, California.
