Agave jaiboli is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Jaiboli Agave".

description

Agave jaiboli grows individually. The open rosettes are 60 to 100 cm high and 140 to 200 cm wide. The green, linear, lanceolate, ascending, tapering, folded leaves are 60 to 100 cm long and 8 to 12 cm wide. The irregularly serrated leaf margins are sometimes horny. The pointed, reddish to brown terminal spine is 3 to 4 cm long.

The paniculate straight to curved narrow inflorescence is 6 to 8 m high. The narrow yellow flowers are 35 to 50 mm long and appear on the upper part of the inflorescence on the variably arranged branches. The funnel-shaped flower tube is 9 to 11 mm long.

The elongated brown three-chamber capsule fruits are 40 to 50 mm long and 18 to 20 mm wide. The shiny, black seeds are up to 5 to 7 mm long.

Systematics and distribution

Agave jaiboli grows in Mexico in the state of Sonora on stony slopes, in grass and woodlands at an altitude of 300 to 1000 m. The species is associated with Nolina species.

The first description by Gentry was published in 1972.

Agave jaiboli is a member of the Crenatae group and grows in the San Bernardo region and near it in the state of Sonora . Within the group it can be distinguished by the narrow, sword-shaped leaves (Gentry 1982: p. 345).
