Agave nayaritensis is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Nayarit Agave".

description

Agave nayaritensis grows individually and rarely forms offshoots. The light green, lancet-shaped, variably arranged, slack, finely roughened leaves are 85 to 115 cm long and 12 to 15 cm wide. The wavy, brown leaf edges are serrated irregularly. The dark brown end thorn is 1 to 1.5 cm long.

The paniculate, slender, straight to slightly curved, red-colored inflorescence is 3 to 4 m high. The loose, sparse branches appear in the middle and reach the tip. The yellow colored flowers are 40 to 45 mm long. The broad, funnel-shaped tube is up to 4 mm long.

The capsule fruits and seeds are unknown.

The flowering period extends from April to May.

Systematics and distribution

Agave nayaritensis grows in Mexico in the states of Nayarit and Sinaloa in tropical regions on volcanic rock edges, in woodland at an altitude of 600 m to 700 m. It is associated with succulent and cactus species.

The first description by Howard Scott Gentry was published in 1982.

Agave nayaritensis is a representative of the Marmoratae section . The species is rare and for a long time was only known from the type locality Mirador del Aguila . In mountainous regions in southern Sinaloa, further colonies were discovered together with agave impressa . The 3 to 4 meter high, red colored, slender and straight to slightly curved inflorescence is characteristic.
