Agave petrophila is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Rock Living Agave".

description

Agave petrophila forms prostrate stems up to 100 cm in height. The many-headed, compact rosettes have a diameter of 50 to 80 cm. The linear, flat, striped, flexibly arranged, green to bluish leaves are 40 to 70 cm long and 4 to 9 cm wide. The yellow leaf margins are finely serrated. The brown to reddish end thorn is up to 1 cm long.

The annual, elongated to curved inflorescence is 1.8 to 2 m high. The bell-shaped, green colored flowers are 20 to 25 mm long and appear on the upper part of the inflorescence. The open flower tube is up to 5 mm long.

The spherical one. dark brown three-chambered capsule fruits are 9 to 10 mm long and 8 to 9 mm wide. The black seeds are 3 to 3.5 mm long and 2 to 2.5 mm wide.

Systematics and distribution

Agave petrophila grows in Mexico, in the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero on rocky limestone slopes at an altitude of 850 to 1300 m.

The first description by Abisai Josue García-Mendoza and Esteban Martínez was published in 1998.

Agave petrophila is a representative of the Striateae section . It is rarely found in the southern Mexican Sierra de Guerrero . The small, multi-headed rosettes are characteristic. It is related to Agave dasylirioides , but differences in size, shape, flower, leaf structure and fruit are recognizable.
