Agdistis tamaricis is a butterfly (moth) from the family of feather moths (Pterophoridae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 18 to 27 millimeters and are gray-brown in color. Along the Costa loader there are four dark spots, the two inner ones being larger than the two outer ones. The distance between the two inner points is greater than that of the two outer points. Another spot is in the dorsal position of the second costal spot. There are three spots on the edge of the wing fold, here the outer spot is the largest.

The valves of the male genitals are long and there are no appendages. The aedeagus is curved and irregular at the top. The ostium of the female genitals has a sharp point. In the vicinity of the parabolic tapering antrum there are two large, compact spines located dorsally.

Agdistis tamaricis is common in the Palearctic of the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean . In the north the distribution area extends as far as southern Germany and Strasbourg in France . In the east it extends over the Balkan Peninsula to Asia Minor , Iran , Afghanistan , Pakistan and China . In the south, the moths are found in Israel , North Africa and on the Arabian Peninsula . In the Orient the way in is India , China and Taiwan represented in the Afrotropical comes agdistis tamaricis in Liberia , the Republic of South Africa and Mauritania before.

Way of life

The caterpillars feed on the French tamarisk ( Tamarix gallica ), Tamarix smyrnensis and the German tamarisk ( Myricaria germanica ). In southern Germany, the caterpillars hatch in autumn and overwinter, pupating takes place in spring. The caterpillars are characterized by a peculiar behavior: They shake off their excrement with a sweeping movement of the caterpillar body.

The moths fly in successive generations from March to October, depending on the geographical latitude.
