Ah Yue Günther Karl Lou (born October 7, 1923 in Hamburg ; † April 17, 2005 there ) was a German actor.

life and work

Ah Yue Lou was the son of a Hamburg nurse and a Chinese captain from Shanghai. In contrast to his friend Hans-Jürgen Massaquoi , Lou did not have to give up school during the National Socialist era because of his origins.

After completing his apprenticeship as a model maker, he began taking acting lessons with Gustaf Gründgens in Hamburg. As he (at that time still a Chinese citizen) could not become a member of the German Drama Chamber, he did not get any engagements as an actor.

Therefore, he followed the advice of a colleague to perform floor acrobatics and tap dance in variety shows (e.g. Hansa-Theater, Haus Vaterland in Hamburg or the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin).

Shortly before the end of the war, he was given the choice of either joining the Wehrmacht or going to an internment camp. He decided to join the paratroopers.

After the war he continued as an acrobat and dancer to look after the English occupation forces (British Army Welfare Service) together with Hans Massaquoi. This later became known through his book "Neger, Neger, Schornsteinfeger", which was also filmed for television (with Veronica Ferres).

Only then did he get engagements in film, television and theater.

His unusual appearance enabled him to pursue an acting career in the post-war period. Lou often played Asian "villains". At that time there was no competition in Germany to fill such a role.
