Ahmed Safwat (born June 6, 1947 in Cairo , † July 30, 2003 ibid) was an Egyptian squash player .

Career

Ahmed Safwat played squash in the 1970s and 1980s. In January 1978 he reached his highest place in the world rankings with ninth place. With the Egyptian national team he took part in the World Cup in 1981 , 1983 and 1985 . Between 1976 and 1983 he was four times in the main field of the world championship in singles, each time reaching at least the second round. In 1981 he achieved his best result with the quarter-finals. Against Qamar Zaman he lost in three sets. At the British Open he moved into the semifinals in 1977, in which he was defeated by Cam Nancarrow . After his career he worked as a trainer, including in Hamburg , England and Egypt.

On July 30, 2003, he died of a heart attack in Cairo, the city of his birth , after having survived a heart attack the day before. He was married to an Englishwoman and the couple had children.
