Gasthaus Kaitl

The building is a listed building and is registered under the number D-1-72-114-184 in the Bavarian Monument List.

history

Kaitl is an old field name, the toll to Karlstein was already in the early 12th century above the inn . At this paved toll booth , the toll for road use was levied via the Kleber - the path criss-crossed by gorges over the Thumsee and the Nesselgraben. Around 1600 the Reichenhall brewers built several beer cellars and a Bräustadl above the Kaitl on and in the rock walls. Here the summer beer could be stored cool and in the nearby Thumsee ice could also be cut in winter for cooling. The Kaitl and Moserwirt restaurants in particular benefited from this. Even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , who often stopped there on his concert tours, enjoyed the beer. We also drank a few drinks of good beer, because the wine was a laxative drink and you had a Maas very good Merzen beer at the Kaitl , recalled Father Leopold . During the Tyrolean uprising in 1809, the Gasthof Kaitl was an important place to exchange information about combat operations and troop movements.

The Gasthof Kaitl had its own butcher's shop until the 1970s. The operation as a restaurant slowly ended in the 1990s. Around 2000 attempts were made to set up a bar and a shop for skate items , but this did not succeed in the long term. The owner later offered sporadic cooking courses, and the building is currently only used as a residential building.
