Ahron (Ronnie) Bregman ( Hebrew אהרון ברגמן; * 1958 in Israel ) is an Israeli political scientist , author, journalist and expert on the Middle East conflict .

Life

Bregman served as an artillery officer in the Israeli army and took part in the 1982 Lebanon War. After the war he left the army and studied international relations and political science at the University of Jerusalem and worked as a parliamentary assistant in the Knesset .

After giving an interview to the Ha'aretz newspaper in 1988 in which he said he would refuse to serve in the occupied territories , he left Israel and went to England . There he completed his doctorate in 1994 at King's College London . Since then, Bregman has written several books and articles on the Middle East conflict and affairs.

Bregman has been writing obituaries for the Daily Telegraph for the Jewish World and Israel since 1994 and is a lecturer in the War Studies Department at King's College London. In 2012, Bregman published an article accusing himself of betraying the identity of Egyptian super-spy Ashraf Marwan. Marwan had spied for Israel, which was later made public by Bregman, and died in 2007 from falling from a balcony. Bregman lives in London with his wife Dana and children Daniel, Maya and Adam .
