Ain't That a Bitch (a slang expression for "that crap") is a funk album by Johnny Guitar Watson that was released in 1976.

History of origin

Watson played all the instruments except for the wind instruments and drums himself, produced the album and composed all the songs on the album himself. Reynaldo Rey only supported him for Superman Lover . In the provocative Pimp- style cover photo , Watson is sitting in a white suit on a sofa, next to him is a dog, at his feet are two women with dog leashes around their necks.

meaning

At the time of publication, Watson could already look back on a 25-year career as a blues musician, which, however, had remained without significant commercial success. The album was Watson's first commercially successful album and contains some of the most iconic funk compositions he ever wrote. The publication even helped Watson, who was then 41 years old, to receive a Grammy nomination for “Best New Vocalist”. The album was awarded a gold record in America for more than 500,000 copies sold.

The music magazine Mojo (issue 8/03, p. 110) described the album as an "essential funk-blues-soul-R & B-jazz album by one of the great under-sung and under-sold characters of US music."

The pieces Superman Lover and Ain't that a Bitch were written by various rap musicians such as Dr. Dre , Jay-Z , Mary J. Blige , Redman , Montell Jordan and other gecovert .

Music genre

I Need It is a fast paced, rhythmic disco piece . The album contains three ballads, Since I Met You Baby , We're No Exception and I Want to TaTa You Baby , all typical love songs ( “We fell in love so fast, anyone could tell, this kind o 'love has gotta last. ” ). The title track Ain't That a Bitch is a catchy piece about the difficulties of making a living - for example those of a clerk who can program computers, understand accounting and psychology, speak Japanese and get the first week of paid vacation after two years still barely earned enough money to make a living. Superman Lover and Won't You Forgive Me are typical funk pieces.
