Airat Rafailowitsch Ischmuratow ( Russian Айрат Рафаилович Ишмуратов , Tatar / Cyrillic : Айрат Рафаил улы Ишмурат, he himself used as a transliteration of his name Ichmouratov; born 28 June 1973 in Kazan , Republic of Tatarstan ) is a Volga-Ural Tatar -born Russian-Canadian composer , conductor and Klezmer - clarinet . He is conductor and composer of the Nouvelle Génération Chamber Orchestra based in Montreal , Canada , clarinetist with the klezmer band Kleztory and invited professor at Laval University in Quebec .

childhood and education

Ichmouratov is the second child of Razima Icmouratova (Gatina) and Rafail Ichmouratov. He grew up in Kazan, where he studied clarinet at the N3 Music School, the Kazan Music College and the Kazan Conservatory and graduated in 1996. In 1993 he became a permanent guest clarinetist with the Tatarstan Opera and Ballet Theater and the Kazan Symphony Orchestra and toured Europe. In 1997 he took part in the Orford Art Center Festival in Canada , where he met his future mentor, the Russian-Canadian cellist and conductor Yuli Turovsky. In 1998 he permanently moved to Montreal and obtained his master's degree from the University of Montreal . He then founded the Muczynski Trio with Luo Di-Cello and Evgenia Kirjner on the piano, which won first prize and the Grand Award of the Canadian National Music Festival in 2002 and first prize at the 8th International Chamber Music Competition in Krakow in 2004.

In 2005 he received his PhD from the University of Montreal and was subsequently assistant conductor of Bernard Labadie with the Québec Chamber Orchestra Les Violons du Roy. The “Russian Impressions” concert with this ensemble on December 5, 2008, under Ichmouratov's direction, won the Opus Prize in the “Best Concert of the Year” category and was also the world premiere of his own cello concerto. From 2009 to 2011 he was a permanent guest conductor of the Quebec Symphony Orchestra , where he supported the Israeli conductor Yoav Talmi . In 2011, as a short-term replacement for Yuli Turovsky, he conducted the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra on its tour of the USA, Brazil and Peru. In October 2011 he made his debut at Tatarstan's Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (Russia), where he conducted Puccini's Turandot and Verdi's Rigoletto in the 2012/13 season, followed by a European tour.

Kleztory

In 2000 Ichmouratov joined the Klezmer group Kleztory , in which he currently plays the clarinet, composes and arranges. In 2004 Kleztory recorded a CD for Chandos Records ( Great Britain ) with the chamber orchestra I Musici de Montréal and Yuli Turovsky. In 2007 the album "Nomade" won the Opus Prize. The album “Arrival” (2014) was nominated for Best Album of the Year in the Traditional Music category by ADISQ. In 2012 Kleztory won the Klezmer Furth Prize at the International Klezmer Festival and Competition in Amsterdam and performed at the Furth Klezmer Festival in 2013. Ichmouratov also performed as a soloist with Kleztory with the Orchester symphonique de Montréal , the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, Les Violons du Roy and the Brussels Chamber orchestra and toured Canada, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Romania and China.

Ichmouratov was appointed permanent guest conductor at the Concerts Aux Îles du Bic (Canada) in 2012, composer of the summer at the Orford Arts Center (Canada) in 2013 and summer composer at the 17th Édition des Festival Classique des Hautes-Laurentides (Canada) in 2015 . Ichmouratov has been a guest composer at the Canadian Music Center since 2010 .
