Airboss is a 1997 American action film directed by J. Christian Ingvordsen .

action

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the dictator of the new state of Kabalistan, Kalil Babi, came up with a plan to destroy the oil refineries in the Middle East in order to drive the oil price to astronomical heights and thus to put the West in distress. To do this, Vlad Kotchev, a former soldier and hero of the Soviet Union , steals a prototype of an unknown Soviet stealth bomber . It is therefore not possible to determine who is responsible for the respective bombings.

A SEALs special unit is supposed to prevent this destruction. For this, the best fighter pilot Frank White, who was previously responsible for the death of a female pilot, is brought into the team. While tracking the fighter aircraft, which is invisible on the radar, it is shot down far in the Kabalistic hinterland. On foot he tries to reach the border about 60 miles away. However, Frank is caught by Vlad and his men. The situation seems hopeless, but Vlad's friend Nadia frees Frank and escapes with him. SEALs bring both of them out of the enemy country.

The team is sent back for a final mission. The stealth bomber is to be destroyed. Frank steals the prototype and has one last dogfight with Vlad . He crashes him and saves his comrades who are in great distress on the ground. Then he lands with the captured fighter plane with the last drop of fuel on the aircraft carrier.

criticism

"Action film, drawn up as a confrontation between two top agent teams that indulges less in cinematic logic than in gun fetishism."

"With the help of several well-filled boxes of official military archive material, director and armaments lobbyist J. Christian Ingvorden (" Black Berets ") served the Aldi version of" Top Gun ", with the Arabs, the nation's favorite villains so far, slipping into the victim role and acting as the bogeyman Service the good old "Iwan" (in the form of Frank Zagarino) raises his Medusa head again. Not a particularly big hit, but interesting for curious action-seekers and aviator fans. "
