The Ajan ( Russian Аян ) is the 181 km long, left-hand or southwestern headwaters of the Cheta in northern Siberia ( Russia , Asia ) and flows in the former Taimyr Autonomous Okrug in the north of the Krasnoyarsk region .
The Ajan arises and runs a little north of the Arctic Circle in the Putorana Mountains , the remote northwest part of the Central Siberian Mountains . The river flows from the north-north-western end of Lake Ajan , which is fed by several mountain rivers. It flows predominantly northeastward to unite within the mountains with the Ajakli to form Cheta . The latter leaves the mountains running northwards as the southwestern headwaters of the Chatanga .
