The Akçay is a 116 km long left tributary of the Great Meander ( Büyük Menderes ) in southwest Turkey . The river name means "white river". In ancient times the river was called Harpasos (Latinized Harpasus ).

The Akçay rises near Beyağaç in the southwest of the Denizli province . From there it flows in a predominantly west-northwest direction. It later forms the provincial border between Denizli and Muğla . The river reaches the province of Aydın , where it is dammed by the Kemer Dam . The Akçay then flows through the Bozdoğan district in a wide valley in a northerly direction and joins the Great Meander six kilometers south-southwest of the city of Nazilli .
