Akosua Busia
Akosua Cyamana Busia (born December 30, 1966 ) is a Ghanaian actress and writer who currently lives in the United States . Busia was born the daughter of Kofi Abrefa Busia , a former Prime Minister of Ghana . In Ghana, the Akosua Busia family is part of the royal family of the Wenchi tribe . Her education was completed in Oxford , UK .
Busia played the role of Nettie in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple (1985) and the role of a patient in Antoine Fuqua 's Tears of the Sun (2003). In 1996 she married the American filmmaker John Singleton , from whom she divorced three years later. With him she has a daughter named Hadar. Her sister Abena is a professor at Rutgers University .
In 1997 Akosua Busia wrote the novella The Seasons of Beento Blackbird: A Novel , which was published in the Washington Press.
2019 it was included in the anthology New Daughters of Africa by Margaret Busby added.
