The Akwesasne Warriors were a Canadian ice hockey team from Akwesasne , Ontario (near Cornwall ). The team played in the Federal Hockey League from 2010 to 2012 .

history

The Akwesasne Warriors franchise was founded in the spring of 2010 as one of the six founding members of the Federal Hockey League , in which they participated in the game from the 2010/11 season . In the FHL, the team that played their home games in the territory of the Akwesasne Indians, the only Canadian participant.

In its premiere season, the team managed to poach some experienced players from other leagues, including the Italo-Canadian Olympic participant from 2006 Carter Trevisani , the internationally experienced Canadian Jeremy Van Hoof , and his compatriot Pierre Dagenais , who, among other things, played in the two strongest ice hockey leagues in the world , the National Hockey League and the Continental Hockey League , was active. In the course of the season, however, all three players had left the team and signed with higher-class teams.

The team finished the regular season in second place in the FHL and secured early participation in the playoffs. For the finals Trevisani and Dagenais were again committed and both were available again for the finals against the New York Aviators . The Warriors won the Commissioner's Cup, with Dagenais having contributed to this success in four encounters with seven goals. His compatriot Dan Tessier was the best scorer in the playoffs with 17 points. Following the 2011/12 season , the team stopped playing.
