Al Boston (born January 8, 1968 in Mainz ; bourgeois Achim Kliebsch ) is a singer and songwriter who performed mainly in the Rhine-Main area in the 1980s .

Life

The artist initially made a name for himself in the Mainz music scene with country songs and classic rock and roll . The pseudonym Al Boston came about because the singer was looking for new ways of musical expression and his name should also be recognizable and pronounced for an international audience.

Through the first prize at the Mainzer talent competition talent exchange in the category "Voice" (Golden ladder of success) with the song "I'd Still Be There" became known to a wider audience in 1983. “I'd Still Be There” was originally penned by Johnny Cash , who is Al Boston’s greatest musical inspiration to this day. After the victory in Mainz there were appearances in the entire Rhine-Main area and also in other European countries, such as St. Gallen in Switzerland .

The first own compositions such as "Strange Voice Callin '" (1984), "Just One More Ride" (success ladder in bronze in the "New compositions" section of the Talent Exchange) and "Der Trucker" (1986), recorded in German, soon became a major radio station - Audience known thanks to various broadcasts by the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation (including "HR3 Trucker Time"). The track “Good Ole Rock'n'Roll” was released on the LP “Mayence Rock 88” under his name “Achim Larry Kliebsch” . This title also gave the singer the opportunity to bring his music closer to a television audience, as “Good Ole Rock'n'Roll” was also featured in the SWF program “Blick Ins Land”. The late 80s and early 90s were shaped by an intensive collaboration with Südwestfunk in Mainz. Al Boston was featured on both radio broadcasts (“Mainzer Musikmarkt”) and on television (“Abendschau”).

The best-known Al-Boston songs include "Good Ole Rock 'n' Roll" and "Highway 41". Due to long stays in Arizona and career changes, Al Boston has rarely appeared in public since the mid-1990s. However, there are sometimes exceptions.

Al-Boston music is still available today in the sound archive of Südwestrundfunk. He is featured on YouTube with his version of "The Ballad of Paladin," recorded live in 2008 at the Ryman Auditorium (the former Grand Ole Opry ) in Nashville , Tennessee. Al Boston could be seen as a live artist in Bad Kreuznach in November 2008 , when he performed two French rock songs, "Plein soleil" and "C'est en France", on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Konrad Adenauer's encounter with Charles de Gaulle .

In April 2014, selected songs on the album "Highway 41: The Eighties Tracks" were released on WOM / Indiewerk, which makes some tracks that have appeared on vinyl available again on CD for the first time.
