Al Jones (drummer)
Albert Francis "Al" Jones (born December 18, 1930 in Philadelphia , † 1976 in Belgium ) was an American modern jazz drummer .
Jones played from 1949 with Lionel Hampton and from 1952 to 1955 with Dizzy Gillespie , with whom he also toured Germany in 1953. He accompanied Bull Moose Jackson and Arnett Cobb and the singers Sarah Vaughan , Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington . In 1962 he came to Europe with the Living Theater of New York and stayed in Belgium. Here he accompanied traveling musicians such as Dexter Gordon , Clark Terry and Milt Jackson , played with Jean Fanis , Roger Vanhaverbeke , with Jack Sels and in the New Sadi Quartet by Fats Sadi .
He has recorded with Gillespie, Hampton, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Arnett Cobb, Wade Legge (trio 1953) and Bull Moose Jackson.
