The Ala-Arscha ( Russian Ала́-Арча́ ) is a left tributary of the Tschüi in Kyrgyzstan . It has a length of 76 km and drains an area of 233 km². The mean discharge is 4.17 m³ / s.
The Ala-Artscha flows through the Alamüdün district in the Tschüi area . The river has its source on the northern slope of the main ridge of the Kyrgyz Mountains and is fed by its glaciers . It flows in a northerly direction through a mountain valley that lies within the Ala Artscha National Park .
The Ala-Artscha then leaves the mountains and reaches the steppe north of the mountain range. It then flows through the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek . A few kilometers to the north it is dammed up to form the Ala Artscha reservoir . Finally it reaches the Tschüi and flows into it on the left.
