Life

Lawyer and local politician

After attending school, Vidalies studied law and worked as a lawyer after completing his studies and being admitted to the bar . Between 1976 and 1979 he was Parliamentary Assistant to Roger Duroure , who at the time was a member of the National Assembly for the Landes department. He then opened a law firm in Mont-de-Marsan in 1979 .

At the same time he began his political career in local politics when he was elected for the first time in 1979 as a representative of the PS as a member of the General Council of the Land department , in which he represented the canton of Mont-de-Marsan-Sud until 1992 . During this time he was also Vice-President of the General Council from 1985 to 1992. In addition, he was a member of the municipal council of Saint-Pierre-du-Mont from 1983 to 1989 and then from 1989 to 2002 first vice-mayor of Mont-de-Marsan.

MP and Minister

In 1988, Vidalies was elected a member of the National Assembly as a candidate for the PS and represented the Landes department there until 1993 . While he suffered an election defeat in 1993 and had to resign from the National Assembly, he was a member of the National Council and the National Office of the PS from 1993, which made him a member of the highest governing bodies of the party.

From 1997 until his entry into the government in 2012, he was again a member of the National Assembly and again represented the Landes department. In addition, from 1997 to 2002 he worked as a substitute judge at the Court of Justice of the Republic , a court that exclusively judges the misconduct of French ministers in the exercise of their office. At the same time he became a member of the General Council of the Landes department again in 1998 and was a member of it until 2011.

Since 2000 Vidalies, the 2000-2002 member of the Data Protection Authority Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) was National Secretary of the PS and is also since 2007 President of the International Study Group on the problems of Fiji .

After the election of François Hollande as President and the appointment of Jean-Marc Ayrault as Prime Minister , Vidalies was appointed Assistant Minister for Relations with Parliament in its cabinet on May 17, 2012, reporting directly to the Prime Minister; he kept this function in the second Ayrault government . He was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly in 2012, but initially did not take up his mandate because of his membership in the government. With the resignation of the Ayrault II government, he left the government on March 31, 2014 and resumed his mandate on March 1, 2014. On August 26, 2014, Prime Minister Manuel Valls appointed him to the second government of Valls as State Secretary for Transport and the Maritime Economy below the Minister for Environment, Sustainable Development and Energy, Ségolène Royal .
