Alan Boswell
Alan Henry Boswell (born August 8, 1943 in West Bromwich , † August 24, 2017 in Shrewsbury ) was an English football player .
Athletic career
Boswell started his adult career at FC Walsall , with whom the goalkeeper started in the second-rate Second Division . After relegation to the third division in the summer of 1963, he moved to Shrewsbury Town , who also played in the third division . Here he ran up to 1968 in 222 league games before the Wolverhampton Wanderers brought him to the First Division . He only played ten games for the club, including a 6-0 defeat against Liverpool . Therefore, he was given to the then second division Bolton Wanderers after just one season , where he guarded the gate for three years. In 1972 he joined the third division club Port Vale before ending his career at Oswestry Town in non-league football . There he also worked as a trainer in the late 1970s.
Boswell was one of the first English goalkeepers to use goalkeeper gloves in the 1960s . At the World Cup finals in 1966 , he attended a game of the Soviet Union in Roker Park and was enthusiastic about Lev Ivanovich Yashin , who - as was common in Eastern Europe at the time - was equipped accordingly. Roswell's mother or wife sewed the gloves using rubbers for table tennis bats . He also bought his own bottle-green goalkeeper jersey, including black shorts and socks, the color of which was based on Jaschin's outfit.
